One thing I learned from my training with ACTS/SAFEHARBOR, was the importance of building bridges to the people God has given you to minister to, through feeding them.
I am a chaplain with the Sheriff’s Department in a Women’s Prison in the San Diego area. I was struggling when I first became a chaplain, on how to build a relationship with the staff. It was difficult since I couldn’t pray with them or read God’s word with them during a briefing. I prayed and asked God to show me a way to minister to them and He put it on my heart to bake cookies, which I love to do.
On my way to weekly briefings, I pray and ask God to bless and protect each person that I come in contact with and help me to build a bridge. Each week I bake different kinds of cookies and walk around with a smile, tray of cookies and say Good Morning and offer each person a cookie.
Just about everyone loves cookies, so this has opened many doors for me to get to know them better and build relationship in the Name of Jesus.
Let your light so shine before men, that they many see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
